Ningde Guide

Preface: Recommended self‑drive, public transport in small cities is not very developed. Also, personally I feel Ningde tourism doesn’t really excel in historical or cultural aspects, but the sea views are nice, and it’s definitely suitable for :pig: (food recommendations below).

lz On the first day I went to the Ningde city center, mainly visited the Ningde Museum. The museum is small, and the exhibits didn’t strike me as particularly noteworthy; I didn’t take many photos. (Probably because I’ve been to many museums with exquisite exhibits, and I usually snap photos of anything that interests me)

Résumé

The second day I went to Sandu Island, visited the Catholic Church, the monastery, and the former Customs Tax Office of Fu. The island is undeveloped for tourism, quite pristine, and the historic buildings are worth seeing, a bit like a wild version of Gulangyu (not really). As soon as you step onto the island you’ll see a row of dilapidated houses—stay away!

Scenery on the island (I actually forgot to post this earlier)

The most important information:

Don’t get scammed when buying ferry tickets at the pier!!!

The ticket sellers there are really nasty. There’s a boring spot called Doumu Island, and the seller will deliberately ask whether you’re going to Sandu Town or Sandu Ao. After you answer, they’ll say Sandu Town is a residential area, Sandu Ao is a scenic spot, but the map doesn’t label that place as Sandu Ao at all. Remember: the island I mentioned is Sandu Island, not any other name!

Refer to the link below; the usual ticket price is 20 CNY. A one‑way ticket to the “Sandu Ao Scenic Area” (a non‑existent scenic area, completely pointless) seems to cost about 50 CNY. Don’t believe what the ticket seller says, and don’t overly trust internet searches—I found more than one guide that got the place name wrong.

Reference link below, the content is basically accurate: 小红书 - 你访问的页面不见了, copy this message and open the 【Xiaohongshu】 app.

The leather‑related content will be written later; posting half for now.

Ningde Guide - Leather Section

I feel Ningde’s seafood is very tasty, four-fruit soup, a Fujian specialty dessert, is also quite good.
Highly recommend a shop called “At the Dock

Idle, so here’s a memory dump.

The first exam and the events that followed

It’s hard to imagine that even after entering university I would still be devastated and cry over my first‑exam scores. Unfortunately, that’s exactly how absurd reality turned out. (Is this an epigraph?)

First‑exam system overview

Résumé

The January exam includes English plus three out of seven optional subjects, and the results are released about twenty days later. If you do well in a subject you can drop it, and if you do poorly you can retake it in the June second exam; the final score takes the higher of the two attempts.

As mentioned, lz isn’t good at narrative or lyrical writing (am I really good at anything?), so the following may be terribly boring.

A brief recollection of the first‑exam results

I remember that about a year ago, when the first‑exam results were about to be released, I couldn’t eat or sleep, anxiously waiting for several days, even dreaming of unsatisfactory scores and waking up frightened. When the results finally came out, the website was so jammed it was unusable; the first notification arrived as a text message on a parent’s phone from the examination bureau.

140, 97, 97, 91

Getting a 140 in English despite deductions on the objective section was something I didn’t expect, but seeing a subject I had scored 98 on in the mock exam drop to 91 left me speechless. (lz still doesn’t know where the failure point was; fortunately the second exam was 98. After the first exam, lz was so frustrated that studying fell apart, homework was rarely done, and whenever the mood was bad lz would skip class and hide in the study room to cram math and English; mock‑exam scores kept decreasing.)

At first lz calculated a total of 425, which seemed okay, but what really crushed me wasn’t the 425 itself—it was learning that other classmates had much higher scores. If that cursed elective had been a 96, lz would have reached 430 and wouldn’t have felt so bad.

These first‑exam scores, while not terrible in some eyes, doomed me to an excruciating second half of senior year.

I later learned from various sources that the subject that inexplicably gave me a 91 was actually one where some classmates, who rarely even hit 90 in mock exams, managed to score 90 or even 95+ and then dropped the subject. I had no idea what was happening, why I ended up with such an ugly score, and there was no avenue for appeal even if I disagreed with the result.

That afternoon, I didn’t touch the paper I was supposed to review; instead I kept trying to find out other people’s scores. When I learned that others did better, I felt the usual sadness; when someone claimed “I didn’t do well,” I wondered if they were just pretending to be weak. Moreover, on the day results were released, most of the detailed scores you could hear about tended to be the good ones. A little later in the afternoon I started tearing up the used draft paper to relieve stress, but the gloomy, oppressive feeling lingered in my mind.

Sigh, we only have a second English listening and speaking exam. When the grades were released, it broke us, we skipped the running drill and cried in the office. Coincidentally, a friend from the art class also got her art unified exam results and was devastated, and the two of us hugged and cried together :joy:

:hugging_face_pleading_face: You’re amazing, I did very poorly on the first exam, even got an 85 (even though all the previous exams made me think I would get 97 :cat_see_no_evil:), which forced me to take six subjects, none could be dropped. I don’t know if it’s because of that, the final grades were just average, I can only say they weren’t bad enough for me to want to repeat a year.
The classmates who did well on the first exam only studied Chinese and Math, I’m really jealous.

It really messes with my mindset  Even today, thinking back still hurts :sad_but_relieved_face:

The original advantage of the first exam turned into a subject selection surprise +1
I can only say the exam institute’s question‑setting level is just like that :innocent:

Bad news: got capped by the extreme grade limit
