I recall a study showing that paper reading makes it easier to concentrate than electronic reading, so I stick to buying paper math books (the electronic ones, after reading a bit, I go wander around Jiao Da Gate) ![]()
Buying books feels like a mountain toppling
Yesterday night I was still hesitating whether to buy “History of the Republic of Korea,” I was interested for a few days, but thought it was a bit pricey and I couldn’t finish it for now. I’ve already placed the order.
Buying books is too expensive, and the library books are so new that I’m reluctant to use them. I’ve been paperless for three years now. The advantage is that I can comfortably lie in bed and read with one hand, which is better for the spine than paper books; I can also doodle beside it, and I don’t have to move books when I move. The downside is that it may indirectly promote scattered attention; sometimes I envy others’ well‑worn private collections, and I have fewer chances to notice the cover, publisher, and author. But weighing the pros and cons, technology changing life still suits me ![]()
