As shown in Figure 1, students from the software college of a certain university are recording a mental‑health course assignment for college students. Two people in the background are squinting and giving the middle finger (if Figure 1 is not clear enough, you can look at Figure 2). After face‑to‑face negotiations failed, they posted a thread in the channel tagging the person; details are in Figure 3.

The squinting, middle‑finger individuals in the background also posted content on multiple social platforms such as Douyin and Xiaohongshu (the detailed content is in Figure 4).

The school responded promptly on Sunday at 00:19:10, including but not limited to the content shown in Figure 5, and followed up further (the counselor stayed in the dorm until 1 a.m., see Figure 6).

During Sunday daytime, the incident gradually appeared on social platforms such as Zhihu, Bilibili, and Tieba (respectively Figures 7, 8, and 9, all sourced from the internet).

  1. It’s best that this kind of incident doesn’t happen again; even if it does, resolve it on the spot. Don’t assume others can’t understand you—communication isn’t just verbal; act when action is needed.
  2. Relying on the school to intervene is somewhat unrealistic; when an issue escalates from an individual to a group, it becomes much harder to handle, and international perspectives must be considered. “Better to have fewer problems than more.” If each side gets its share of punishment, it can still be resolved.
    1. However, it’s unclear whether it’s due to administrative efficiency or lack of resolve; they chose a cold, dead‑beat approach. The colder the handling, the more susceptible it becomes to populist or nationalist pressure, turning individual actions into group and organizational issues driven by populist sentiment.
    2. If it involves others, it could become a diplomatic issue, but having one’s own people delete the video makes it a domestic matter.
    3. When it comes to one’s own children (whether they’re officially students or not), they can be beaten and scolded behind closed doors; but for other people’s children, they have to plead loudly for them not to remove the last veil of shame—so typical.
    4. Moreover, given the high level of cooperation with Russia, removing the last veil also harms mutual exchanges.
    5. Through this incident, it serves as a warning to all parties, prompting them to regulate their conduct in public spaces.
    6. In plain terms, it shifts systemic issues onto individual differences, using individual punishments to decouple group and individual interests, thereby soothing various groups’ emotions.
  3. Is the truth the important thing? Not necessarily, but emotional venting is crucial. On a disconnected internet, how much content is not an emotional outburst? Most of it is just for entertainment (like this one).
