The Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress voted on Friday to adopt a decision on implementing a gradual postponement of the statutory retirement age.
According to the decision, starting from January 1 2025, China will take 15 years to gradually raise the statutory retirement age for male workers from the current 60 years to 63 years, and for female workers from the current 50 years and 55 years to 55 years and 58 years, respectively.
This is the first adjustment to the statutory retirement age for workers since it was set in the 1950s, more than 70 years ago.
In addition to postponing the statutory retirement age, the decision will adjust the minimum contribution period for workers to receive basic pension benefits on a monthly basis, increasing it gradually from 15 years to 20 years starting in 2030, with an increase of six months each year.
Based on the uniform implementation of delayed retirement, the decision allows workers who have met the minimum contribution period to voluntarily choose flexible early retirement, with the earliest retirement not exceeding three years earlier, and the retirement age must not be lower than the original statutory retirement age; they may also, with agreement between the employer and the worker, flexibly postpone retirement, with a postponement of up to three years.

My mom has to work a little over two more years, but she’s quite cheerful, saying she has nothing to do at home.
Essentially it’s about extending the pension insurance contribution period
Stick to small-step adjustments, gradually getting it right.
A small extension every three years, a big extension every five years; by the time I’m 40, maybe the retirement age will be 70 for men and 65 for women, lol
My dad, over 50, works every day until midnight, even works overtime on the Mid‑Autumn Festival; calculating that results in a 22‑month delay. Their generation really knows how to hustle (and the hustle pays off).
