Especially in the omics field
I feel that during the few years at XJTU, I have encountered few people interested in bioinformatics.

Someone is not in the door ![]()
Self-studying GWAS~
But I want to do computational work mainly because wet experiments are too resource‑dependent…
Research that can be done with just one computer is more suitable for a grassroots problem‑solver like me.
Do development or do analysis (
I also have the same question: I want to do bioinformatics, but I’m not good at algorithms. I’m worried that I can’t succeed at wet‑lab experiments, and that I can’t succeed at algorithms/computing—I’m a total loser ![]()
What I’m doing now is more development-oriented ()
I am self-taught in algorithms and such () I feel that actually doing bioinformatics analysis and being able to tell biological stories well is also impressive.
I actually think that self‑study credit can be somewhat helpful for data analysis when joining a group (personal opinion)
I’m just an undergraduate, so please advise, senior.
I’m not familiar with data analysis, and I feel that discovering and telling biological stories is too hard ![]()
I mainly because wet experiments are too tiring ()
I actually switched from another major to biology ![]()
It really is, not accurate.
We’ve already switched majors, why transfer into a black hole?
Because I like it, I guess ![]()
And my original major was Optoelectronic Information Science and Engineering
Actually, I don’t regret it now; I don’t want to go to a factory or a company
Let’s see if I can later get a teaching position at a second‑tier university ![]()
If you like biology, you might as well switch to medicine—more fallback options ![]()
. Now it’s a job‑market winter, and many traditional biology PhDs around me are complaining. My high school brings in several top biology PhDs from Tsinghua and Peking University every year…
I’m the same now; the direction I want to pursue is also very similar to medicine
The main thing is that when I was filling out my college applications, my parents didn’t want me to study medicine
It seems I’ve guessed who you are (I guess you guessed me too).
I feel that bioinformatics and AI4Bio are still quite different. The former is mainly done by biologists, using data to tell biological stories, with the focus on biology; the latter is currently still done by that AI crowd, basically just smashing various
Take a look at Wen Xiaogang’s 2018 Dirac Medal‑winning work.
Can you take a look at this post on L site?
I didn’t expect there are so many people doing biology.
