Sweet Sunk Cost
Anyone who frequently rents a place must have had this thought: you buy nice items, but when moving they can’t be taken, selling them is a hassle, and in the end you either have to harshly give up or expend a lot of effort to deal with them. When I moved into the new home, I signed a 3‑year lease—a rental period that is neither short enough to make do nor long enough to freely amass furniture. Yet, after playing games for so many hours each day, the sofa can’t be uncomfortable; with so many knick‑knacks, there must be a cabinet; the living room feels so empty, we need to put something there… The pain of moving in has been completely forgotten, and once the buying starts, the broken‑window effect just won’t stop.
I received startup funds from my parents; after paying the rent and the air‑conditioner there was still some left over. It just so happened that my IKEA points were about to expire, and the end‑of‑month points mall was empty, leaving only a whole‑home design voucher. Clinging to the thought that “if I don’t buy, nothing will happen to me,” I got in touch with a designer.

Design Demands That Exhaust the Brain
As you can see, the living room is extremely spacious. When my mom came to visit, the first thing she said at the door was: ‘Shabby rental.’ When she left, my dad said with great sorrow: ‘You’ve suffered.’ Me: ?
I understand that they’re older and less receptive, but my rebellious side kicks in— the more my parents disapprove of my ‘shabby rental,’ the more I want to decorate it properly.
After several rounds of discussion, the designer presented the final plan. It satisfied my desire to de‑

Day1 Bangkok
Got heavily overcharged for a taxi, but saw a sunrise as dazzling as a sunset

Many Japanese‑run shops, like a little Tokyo

East Nanjing
Day 2 Pattaya
Bangkok⇌Pattaya is a 5‑hour drive; on the way I met a frugal traveling old man from Beijing who said he can’t speak a single foreign language and has been wandering Thailand for three months. Guessing he hadn’t spoken to anyone for months, he grabbed my companion and chatted nonstop, making the other passengers in the bus look angry. I really wanted to find a crack in the ground and crawl into it.
Blazing sun, took a double‑deck bus too far, and while wandering aimlessly I stumbled upon a little Kamakura.

Convenience store + highway + power lines = ?
Walked a few kilometers along the beach; many white men and women were sunburned bright red. I wanted to lie on the sand and sleep, but unfortunately had to rush back. A quick online check showed that nearby 4‑star hotels cost only 300 RMB per night—half the price of the room we booked in Bangkok. So confusing.

Going to the beach for something?
Because I rode the bus too long I missed the trip to Koh Larn and survived the hottest part of the day in a chain coffee shop. Thai drinks are extremely sweet; mixed with the water the local old man gave me that morning, the sweetness was just right.

Lots of matcha and yuzu
Dinner was at a seaside restaurant while waiting for sunset. Chicken skewers and toasted bread
grilled meat membrane
oysters were delicious—one bite each.

Side dishes with many “ants” paired with a hot‑trend playlist
Today there were too many clouds, so I didn’t see the pink sunset
. Maybe next time!

The sun god is off duty
Got back to the hotel at 10 p.m.; the 7‑Eleven downstairs was suddenly packed. Tomorrow I’ll continue the city walk—I’m already missing home ![]()
I’m envious, the clouds look so beautiful

The Endless Staircase
As October arrives, the weather cools slightly, the belated osmanthus finally blooms, its golden‑red branches dense, soaking the city of Xi’an with flavor. Autumn is like a chilled cake drenched in honey; whether or not it suits one’s palate, everyone must taste this sweet and refreshing feast.
The crisp, clear autumn weather is perfect for going out. On the last day of the National Day holiday, I finally strolled through the Xingqing campus after a long time. The classrooms in Buildings A and B have been completely renovated; even the chairs alone gave me a moment of pause. The restrooms are dazzlingly beautiful, yet the smell and water pressure instantly reminded me of the days when “opening the door meant seeing a pigeon.” Overall, there has been progress—congratulations, and even the old veterans are envious.
I wandered to the Westward Relocation Museum and was surprised to find it open today. The university has organized many visits, but I have always missed them for one reason or another—perhaps because current students are all a bit afflicted with the Westward Relocation syndrome. With a “since I’m here, I might as well” attitude, I witnessed a 20‑minute courtship display of “married flying ants” at the entrance, and finally was allowed inside to explore.
The museum has four floors: the first floor introduces the history of Nanyang Public School – the National Jiaotong University; the second floor covers the westward relocation of Jiaotong University; the third floor displays the Innovation Harbor and numerous quotations; the fourth floor is closed. I examined the exhibits on the first two floors carefully, breezed through the third floor, and could tell

Underestimated the length of the lights, which later forced me to wildly swing up and down, wrapping them like a spider web. I can’t imagine how troublesome it will be to clean up.
