Daniel Kahneman’s extensive experiments support the view that the human brain has two thinking pathways, one fast and fuzzy (closer to biological instincts, stereotypes, habits), and the other slow and accurate (closer to rational thinking, rigorous analysis).

My guess is that the fast channel uses low energy and has decent accuracy, while the slow channel uses high energy and also has higher accuracy.
